WHY WE LOVE HOMEMADE COFFEE SUGAR SCRUB

Calling all coffee lovers! This simple, homemade coffee sugar scrub recipe can be made in about five minutes and it’s a good one!

If the truth be told, I love coffee. The smell of it, the taste, that feeling of a new day spent waking up over a cup of Joe – I love it all. So, when I learned about all of the benefits coffee has for our skin you bet I started testing out different recipes instantly.

The larger granules of ground coffee mixed with sugar create an excellent exfoliator. As the sugar gently melts away, coffee grounds remain intact for added exfoliation. Held together with coconut oil and sweet almond oil, this scrub leaves skin feeling soft and moisturized.

BENEFITS OF COFFEE FOR THE SKIN

Did you know that coffee has many skin benefits? Along with it’s amazing aroma, coffee has an invigorating effect on our skin.

  • Cellulite: Coffee scrubs are widely used for the treatment of cellulite. When used consistently, the appearance of cellulite may be reduced by the exfoliation and caffeine from the coffee scrub.
  • Inflammation: Reduce inflammation with the power of coffee! Antioxidants and caffeine are helpful in reducing inflammation. When used on our faces, coffee scrub can help to reduce under eye circles.
  • Reduce the appearance of dark spots by exfoliating with a homemade coffee scrub! Coffee is loaded with antioxidants and combined with exfoliation this is a recipe for reducing those pesky dark spots on your skin.

Homemade coffee sugar scrub is beneficial for our bodies and our faces. Be sure to scrub a little gentler on your face than you would the rest of your body (and always do a test spot before scrubbing your whole face with anything).

Coffee can help to reduce acne, reduce fine lines and give skin a healthy glow. In fact, this coffee scrub can also be used as a face mask – be sure to read more on that below.

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO EXFOLIATE?

Just keep scrubbing, just keep scrubbing – I feel like Dory, but it’s so true. Exfoliation is one of the fundamentals of healthy skin. Our skin cells are constantly being produced and also constantly dying. The top layer of our skin contains dead skin cells, and when there’s a build up our skin can look a little dull.

Sure, we may not notice it at all until we actually do exfoliate (and then we realize what we’ve been missing). Exfoliation is the act of gently removing any dead skin cells that are stuck to us, revealing healthy skin underneath.

For the purpose of this post, when using a homemade coffee sugar scrub, exfoliation should be done when the skin is warm and moist. Exfoliating dry skin can be irritating.

Exfoliation increases circulation, helps to reduce acne, evens skin tone and of course gives us a better complexion. When we exfoliate with coffee scrub, add on the benefits of reduced inflammation and reduced cellulite as well!

HOW TO USE HOMEMADE COFFEE SUGAR SCRUB

coffee scrub

Homemade coffee sugar scrub is best enjoyed in the shower or tub. Allow skin to have contact with warm water for several minutes before scrubbing, to allow for better exfoliation.

Once skin is supple, grab about a dime-sized amount of homemade coffee sugar scrub and start to rub it onto the skin in a circular motion. Continue to rub until the sugar has melted away, then rinse off the excess coffee.

This is not the neatest of homemade body scrub recipes, so a little bit of extra rinsing will be necessary to remove any residual coffee from the skin.

After exfoliating with this coffee scrub, go ahead and shave (applying homemade shaving cream first).

Once the shower is over, if you feel that your skin could still benefit from a little more moisture, some whipped body butter may just do the trick.

HOW TO USE HOMEMADE COFFEE SUGAR SCRUB AS A FACE MASK

coffee sugar scrub is a simple recipe

After washing your face in warm water, apply a small amount of homemade coffee sugar scrub all over the face. Use caution around the eyes.

Gently work the scrub into the skin using your fingertips, then sit back and relax for 5 to 10 minutes.

Once the time is up, grab a warm washcloth and gently wash away any residual coffee scrub. Once the face is clean again, splash with cold water to close pores and then apply your favorite moisturizer.

Lately, I’ve been loving pure Jojoba Oil as a moisturizer. Just a couple of drops gently patted onto the skin works wonders for hydrating skin.

As mentioned earlier (with all homemade skincare) be sure to do a test spot first, before applying all over the face.
